Drum maestro and all around musical wizard Justin Pinkerton dropped his first record as Futuropaco back in 2018 on El Paraiso Records. Futuropaco’s debut was a mix of late 60s grooves and Italian countryside psychedelia. Fuzzy guitar lines intermingled with tight, groove-heavy drums and lean into the musical spirit of cats like Ennio Morricone, Fabio Frizzi, and Pino Donaggio(to name a few). It was a unique and singular record that felt familiar, but familiar as if you dreamt it up in some fever dream after a Mario Bava marathon.
Fortezza di Vetro, Vol. 1 followed in 2023, and with it a honed-in sound. The grooves were a-plenty, but there was a sense of melancholy and introspection with this album. There was no doubt it was Justin Pinkerton and Futuropaco, but it felt like an album contemplating the world and how we move forward in it. And still, that KILLER drum sound persists.
Justin has returned as Futuropaco, and once again in partnership with the eccellente El Paraiso Records is readying Fortezza di Vetro, Vol. 2. Today our ears have been gifted with first single “Crollo Capitalista”, slinky bit of grooves, atmosphere, and introspection.

On “Crollo Capitalista” Pinkerton once again expands the sonic footprint and vibes of Futuropaco’s already expansive sound. A loping, funky drum beat lays the groundwork while Justin fills in with buzzing strings, in-the-pocket bass line, and a fuzzy psych-heavy guitar solo. This track could score some dusty, experimental spaghetti western or a noir-esque Italian police procedural. His spot-on production makes this song feel timeless.
What a surprise to wake up to a brand new Futuropaco song, and even more of a surprise to see that Fortezzi di Vetro, Vol. 2 is a short ways away. The world is indeed swirling into chaos, but at least we’ll have some great music to listen to as we watch it crumble into the sea. Or, maybe to listen to as we take the power back. Hopefully the latter.
Listen to “Crollo Capitalista” below. Keep up with El Paraiso Records for info on preorders for ‘Fortezzi di Vetro, Vol. 2.’
