Today truly feels like the arrival of “real” fall, as opposed to the previous “fake” fall days that we’ve been dealing with on and off since September. You know, those days that are like a glimpse behind the curtain to what fall has in store for us. But then the next day it’s 85 degrees and muggy like Florida…or Vietnam.
It’s a painful thing to go through, the fake fall. It’s like being lied to by Mother Nature. “Here you go, no more sweating through your underwear walking to your car after work. Enjoy that cool breeze hitting your face, the starting of the changing leaves, and maybe even pick out a sweatshirt to wear for tomorrow…PSYCH!!! Just joking. It’s gonna be hot and muggy tomorrow.”
When I stepped outside this morning the air was crisp, and as the sun rose the sky was a steely gray that felt welcoming to my inner Goth. This is the weather I’ve been waiting for. Breaking out the Halloween mixes, my new fall jackets, and breaking in my new On walking shoes my wife bought me the other day.

This is my time to shine. Or, gloom. Take your pick.
We have a wedding to go to tomorrow. One of my best pals and former co-worker John, his oldest is getting married in Fort Wayne at the historical Freemason building downtown. Both the wedding and reception will be there, and we’re really looking forward to it. Our 23-year old is going, as well as my parents. Should be a great time.
As for today, one of my other oldest friends is picking me up after work and we’re gonna do a little comic book shopping. Afterwards we’re picking up pizza and bringing it home. Probably watch a movie and just chill out. That’s what these fall days are for, dontcha know.
Given the massive amounts of pine needles that have fallen in the last week and a half I will probably be outside Sunday doing yardwork as well as cleaning the roof and gutters. Not my favorite thing to do, but it’s part of being a homeowner. You’d think after 30 years I’d be used to it. But I’m not.
That’s pretty much all I got on this Friday. Enjoy your weekend, one and all. Yep, even you. You enjoy it as well.
