Not gonna lie, this whole end of democracy thing is bumming me out. Watching the dismantling of government protections via a bitter old Mr. Magoo and a petulant man-child isn’t doing much for my anxiety and deep-seeded anger issues. Issues that I thought I had gotten in check over a decade of looking inward and doing “the work”. All of that soul searching and “wax on, wax off” philosophical web-weaving has been essentially been turned to ash thanks to a Thanos-like finger snap from Nazi rhetoric re-packaged in red, white, and blue pantaloons made in China.
But I digress.
The good news is that thanks to new music I can get some much needed relief. We’re only in March and I’ve already heard a handful of incredible new music; both new as in released this year and new to me. Panda Bear, Futuropaco, Youth Lagoon, The Cube of Unknowing, The Psychic Circle and Baths have put out some amazing records so far. Plus I’ve been looking in the past for future musical redemption in the form of jazz reissues. Hank Mobley, Joe Henderson, and there’s some great albums arriving soon from International Anthem and Library of the Occult.
“Love, Reign o’er Me!”
We now have confirmation in the form of a brand new single that Causa Sui have a new album dropping later this month. Just this morning the Danish four-piece have dropped “Boogie Lord’s Revenge”, and let me tell you it’s a trip.

With their epic previous album From The Source dropping just last year I wasn’t expecting new Causa Sui in 2025. Either the muse had more inspiration for the lads from Denmark, or they somehow knew we all needed some psychedelic salve for the political and social road rash many of us have all over our persons. There was a four year gap between From The Source and the band’s last full-length, the excellent and groovy Szabodelico released in 2020. We haven’t had two consecutive album releases from Causa Sui since 2016s Return To Sky and 2017s Vibraciones Doradas, so this is quite the sonic treat.
“Boogie Lord’s Revenge” plays it cool, man. It’s like that cat hanging out at the park with a boom box jamming Can on a cassette tape; it’s 85 degrees but he’s still wearing torn jeans, a threadbare Hawkwind t-shirt, and a well worn jean jacket covered in band patches. Not a drop of sweat in sight. And he’s got the best weed in town.
The song flows along on a killer groove courtesy of drummer extraordinaire Jakob Skøtt. There’s a slinky tremolo guitar line that gives us the main melody via the guitar wizard Jonas Munk. Jess Kahr gives us a foundational heft in the form of some serious bass thunder, and keyboardist Rasmus Rasmussen lays down a perfect organ sound that feels pulled from classic Nuggets-style 60s psych. Part Alan Price, part Martin Rev.
“Boogie Lord’s Revenge” grooves over nearly 4 minutes in solid fashion. You get the vibe of southern California in the mid-70s; long-haired young turks skating, boogie boards truckin’, Sabbath t-shirts blazing and the acid kicking in over a Dogtown summer. This song feels like those days that used to last forever.
Give “Boogie Lord’s Revenge” a listen below, and keep up with Causa Sui over at El Paraiso Records. Summer can’t get here soon enough.
