Morph Stereo Returns With ‘Divers’ EP

For the past several months Keith Canisius(Rumskib, Astral TV, Shortwave Broadcaster) has been gifting our ears with singles from a new project called Morph Stereo. Since February of 2024 Canisius has been releasing a series of singles from his new electronic project, six singles in total up to July. August saw an EP and yet another single before the calendar flipped to September.

Musically Morph Stereo is in the same sonic ballpark as his previous project, Shortwave Broadcaster. The compositions are built similarly, via the use of a Eurorack and heavily-effected guitar, and then mixed and engineered into expansive walls of sound. But Morph Stereo has a lighter touch to it. Bright and buoyant, these songs feel more like warm summer days with the sun lighting a journey. There’s also a cinematic feel to the songs of Morph Stereo, giving it all a very widescreen scope.

Divers EP was released on August 23rd, and with it comes a new, kinetic feel while still keeping to the musical DNA of Morph Stereo.

“Brain washed” opens this set and its the most Berlin School vibes from Morph Stereo yet. Touches of Cluster, Harmonia, and NEU! come through the rhythmic pulse at the heart of this track. Electronics that sound like breaking waves, while a distorted voice rises from the mix. “Talking to Presley” bleeps and blips like some lost Boards of Canada track. There’s a cosmic feel here that is hard not to fall into for a heady deep dive. “Backyard joy” has the buoyancy of a hot summer afternoon swimming in a pool as the sun beats down on uncovered heads. I get the feeling of childhood and summer days that never end. We end with “Power within”, a cosmic piece that seems to encapsulate the overall optimistic landscape of Divers. An elegant piece that slowly unfolds and reveals a sublime contentment.

Besides the Divers EP Canisius also dropped yet another single via the Morph Stereo moniker, and just before the calendar flipped to September. “Endless” sticks to the kinetic and rhythmic vibe via the work of Roedelius and Moebius. It works its way into your brain and sticks around long after the song ends.

Hit up the Divers EP and new single “Endless” over at Morph Stereo’s Bandcamp page. And while you’re there check out this year’s past releases. Grab them all and then make your own Morph Stereo playlist for maximum aural effect. And if you haven’t heard any of Keith’s work in Astral TV, Shortwave Broadcaster, or Rumskib, do yourself a favor and take those trips as well. You’ll be glad you did.
