It’s Friday(Don’t Waste It)

We made it to Friday. Finally. I don’t know what it is about these 4-day weeks that end up feeling like 6-day weeks, but it happens every time. Now, if you’re week is short because you took a Friday off, well that’s completely different. Those weeks feel short and special. You take Friday off and you’re getting the weekend started early. If you have Monday off(like we did this week for Memorial Day), then it just feels like you’re avoiding the inevitable start of the work week. At least it does to me.

Anyways, Friday is here and we can all rejoice(apologies if you have to work the weekend.) I’ve really got nothing to say other than I hope you have a great Saturday and Sunday. We spend the majority of our adult life clocking in and clocking out, which only leaves a portion of our existence on this planet to do things we love and WANT to do. 8 hours out of the day we’re with people other than our family. Another 8 hours of the day we’re unconscious and in bed. That just leaves another 8 hours to fit in family life, exercise, creative endeavors, reading, listening to music, watching movies, and whatever else you like to spend time doing. If you ask me those aren’t the greatest ratios for a happy life, but until we figure out another way to exist on this planet that’s the only plan we’ve got.

So when these 48 hours out of the week roll around, don’t waste it. Don’t hem haw around figuring out if you should take time to pick up the guitar or go to a museum or the movies. Don’t feel guilty about losing yourself in a videogame or a book. If your kid asks you to go outside and play, go do it. If your partner wants to go thrifting and then grab some lunch don’t hesitate. Before you know it 10 years have passed you by and hopefully it’s not too late to still enjoy those things.

Regrets are like ghosts that never leave. They haunt you forever, especially the littlest things. Like not going on that walk or getting lunch with your spouse. A decade blows by like low-lying clouds on a summer day and maybe you poo-pood away what could have been an amazing conversation or personal revelation, all because you just didn’t feel like it. Take advantage of the moments allowed you. They don’t come back.

I bought these apple cinnamon rolls yesterday to bring into work this morning. My work pal and I will do that occasionally. Helps make the work day a little better. We’ve been doing this together for almost 25 years. Whatever makes the day better, go for it. And they were made by Amish, so you know they’re good. And it’s Friday, so what better day to enjoy Amish-made apple cinnamon rolls than a Friday?

Okay, so get out there and get through this Friday. We’ve got our son’s girlfriend’s graduation tonight. Tomorrow we’re going over to our daughter’s place to hang out with our grandpuppy Celeste so our daughter can put in 8 hours at school. She graduates Monday night, so that’s exciting. Beyond that painting, music, movies, sun-drenched walks. That’s what’s on the agenda.

So grab the cinnamon rolls, grill some burgers, enjoy that ice cold drink, and laugh as much as you can. That’s what makes it all go round.
