deafheaven’s “Black Brick”

So maybe as to kick the naysayers in the teeth, Deafheaven have dropped a meteoric slab of pure thrash/black metal called “Black Brick” onto an unsuspecting earth. This song is so full of vitriol and venom that you have to keep double checking that you are indeed listening to Deafheaven. It’s that heavy, and that […]

Black Mountain Return In May With ‘Destroyer’; Listen to “Future Shade”

Yes children, gather round for I have great news! The mighty Canadian psych collective Black Mountain have announced that on May 24th they’re dropping their brand new LP Destroyer with their longstanding record label Jagjaguwar. It’s been almost two years since their last release, the incredible IV. In between then and now the band had […]

Com Truise Readies ‘Persuasion System’; Listen To “Existence Schematic”

From the first time I heard Com Truise’s Galactic Melt I was hooked on Seth Haley’s sound. Even though there’s a little over decade that separates Mr. Haley and myself age-wise, it’s as if he was riding a BMX bike along side me down the county road I lived on to the nearby convenience store […]

Dave Harrington Group : Pure Imagination, No Country

Dave Harrington is a sound collage maker. He’s known as a guitarist, but he’s far more than that. With the smooth guitar vibes of David Gilmour mixed with the eclectic ear of Brian Eno, Harrington builds intriguing castles of noise that touch the limits of ambient, jazz fusion, and even post-rock at times. My first […]

Pye Corner Audio : Hollow Earth

Man, what took me so long to find my way to Pye Corner Audio? Seriously, I’ve heard the name for years now from folks that seemingly matter, yet I never heeded their advice. Like whispers in darkened corners and strange messages left on the front stoop written on hotel stationary that simply reads “Pye Corner […]

Phantoms vs Fire : WLDLFE

One of the most intriguing and beguiling releases last year was Phantoms vs Fires’s Swim(released via Burning Witches Records.) That album seemed to absorb everything it came into contact with and reflected it back to the listener in some beautifully alien way. It was an electronic album that sounded to be built out of individual […]

Panda Bear : Buoys

Panda Bear, aka Noah Lennox, could never be accused of being boring. He pushes the boundaries of electronic and experimental pop music both in Animal Collective and with his solo records. His 2007 masterstroke Person Pitch influenced an entire generation of young indie rock musicians to buy a minimoog and sampler and write about their […]

Eerie Family : S/T

I imagine if Jack Skellington and Sally from The Nightmare Before Christmas started a band based on a mutual love of 50s rock and roll, Low, Suicide, and X then I think it would sound like Eerie Family. Eerie Family is Alex Cuervo and Alyse Mervosh, the husband and wife duo from Hex Dispensers, as […]

Nika Moroz : Come To Your Senses

The latest release from forward-thinking electronic music label Soundtracking The Void comes from Nika Moroz. Who is Nika Moroz? I honestly have no idea. There’s hints that she comes from Belarus and originally started out playing guitar and flute(check out the source here, courtesy of The Waveform Transmitter.) Despite knowing little to nothing about this […]

Kevin Hambrick : Clitter and the Clatter

My good friend and fellow music writer DM Jones once said of Kevin Hambrick, “Psychedelic rockers, guitar-pop nuggets and poignant acoustic numbers coexist easily in Hambrick’s world.” No truer statement could be made of the musical world of Kevin Hambrick. He’s been a Fort Wayne music staple for the better part of the 21st century, […]
