Unreality

Things are getting weirder and weirder out there, folks. It’s getting to the point now where it’s hard to tell on the internet what -or who- is real and what’s some fabrication of some AI machine. I haven’t been on Elon Musk’s Incel website in at least a couple years. I’ve used Threads for a couple years now, and the last few months it seems like the bulk of what’s on there is contrarian bot accounts just trying to get people riled up about everything from politics to religion to movies to music and anything else that people seem to be talking about or is being discussed in the great algorithm wavelength.

It was bad enough when it was actual people jumping on espousing their hateful, racist, bigoted, homophobic views. But now we have these robot agents of chaos whose sole purpose is to create rifts between fellow human beings, dropping garbage points of view just so people on the opposing point of view side get riled up and start arguing and commenting until you have thousands of real and AI opinions going at it for hours…or days. Hey, I’m guilty of getting pulled into these battle of quips and I feel like a moron for doing so. But I’m done with it because I don’t want to be part of the hate machine.

You’re not changing minds, especially since most of those posts you’re commenting on aren’t made by humans, but by bot accounts just trying to stir shit up. And this is happening in just the infancy stages of AI. Can you imagine what it’s going to be like in a year or two? Some of these AI programs are gaining so much intelligence so quickly that who’s to say by 2030 they haven’t gained sentience and start hacking into Defense databases and cracking nuclear codes? We think it’s getting stupid now with these ridiculous videos being dropped by everyone from baby boomer retirees, Midwestern soccer moms, and even our own inept administration, imagine when the AI overlords start making their own videos without prompts? Pissing nations off and causing worldwide wars, and those in power too stupid to think twice about it.

Maybe it’s time we sign off these sites and find other hobbies than doomscrolling at midnight? We’ve been hearing for years about how social media is unhealthy and is affecting our physical and mental well being in terrible ways. You can see it in the kids that grew up with devices in their hands and accounts to share their lives on. The anxiety, stress and low self esteem so many kids of the 2010s deal with because of the constant flow of “content”. Now we have bot accounts adding to the noise and discord. They thrive on it, and we feed it when we interact with it.

I wish it was as simple as ignoring it. Just turning your back on it and not giving it your negative energy to feed on. Like the first Nightmare on Elm Street when Nancy turns her back on Freddy Krueger at the end and he disappears. She walks out of the bedroom and the sun is up, and all her friends are alive. Her mom is sober and alive as well. If we could just turn our backs on social media and go back to a simpler time, not feeding into the negative energy machine.

Of course, there were like 7 other Nightmare movies and the very end of the first one the car drove off by itself with the kids locked in. Mom got pulled into the door window by Freddy’s gloved hand. There was no happy ending, and ignoring the problem solved nothing. So what am I saying? That I guess we’re all doomed no matter what. We’ll never get everyone on the same page. There’s always going to be a select group that will constantly feed the machine with their anger and contrarian ways. And the rest of us will be forced to fight in the great AI Wars of the 2050s, anti-algorithm laser cannons in hand and anti-gravity packs on our backs. All because somebody wanted to argue with the machines on Facebook about President Trump’s 5th term, or the pedophile pizza joint in Hoboken.
