Making Machines Speak : Gene Priest Opens Up About ‘Ritual’, His Process, and His Influences

Gene Priest is a man on a mission. That mission is to create music as much as humanly possible, and offer his art and creativity into the atmosphere for all to devour. Whether it’s in Cemetery Gates with his life long pal Derek Jones, or in one of the many musical projects he’s been involved […]

“Your Sentries Will Be Met With Force” : A Few Questions With Composer Steve Moore

Musician/composer Steve Moore recently released his latest solo album titled Beloved Exile. This is his first solo album since 2013s Pangaea Ultima, and first full-length released with Temporary Residence. If you’re not familiar with Moore, he’s been part of heavy synth/prog rock duo Zombi(along with drummer/keyboardist AE Paterra) for over 15 years. Besides his work in […]

Skragn Takes Flight : A Conversation With Musician Marco Egeberg

Skragn is a made-up word, which you’ll find out further down, but it’s also a very real music project started by Danish electronic musician Marco Egeberg. Egeberg is based in Copenhagen, but is originally from Odense, Denmark. If you’re a regular reader of these pages then you should know the name Odense. It’s the home […]

Absurda : Metavari’s Fire Walk With David Lynch

Nate Utesch has quickly been proving himself to be one of the most creative electronic composers working today. The evolution of his band Metavari as a once Midwest post-rock outfit that played stages at SXSW to the one-man studio project seems to have been a seamless one. Though I don’t think anyone pines to be […]

In The Moment : Steve Greene Talks New Music Series ‘Distant Transmissions’

There’s a lot to be said for leaving preconceived notions at the door and letting your surroundings guide you when creating. Discarding the everyday struggles, grand concepts, and narratives and just open your head up to the universe and see what happens. There’s a certain kind of internal fire that erupts when an improvisation on […]

Outsider Vibes: Alan Sinclair Talks Repeated Viewing, Video Nasties, and The Beach House

Alan Sinclair has been making synth-based sonic dread since 2009 under the name Repeated Viewing. The UK-based musician/composer creates moody records that look and feel like some lost soundtrack to a grimy, woozy exploitation flick your mom would never let you rent. Movies like Ms. 45, Nightmare, The Beyond, and Death Wish 2 would pair quite […]

Heavy-Hearted : Cory Kilduff and His Ode To Heartbreak

Musician and composer Cory Kilduff came into my world by way of Ridley Scott and Burning Witches Records. I first heard his music last year when his track “LV426” showed up on the BWR Record Store Day comp Communion. That track is part of a bigger project, one in which Kilduff re-scored Ridley Scott’s sci […]

Dig Deep : Lars Meijer Talks Hunter Complex, Influences, and ‘Open Sea’

Photos by Isolde Woudstra It doesn’t take long to fall hard for the electro-pop music world of Lars Meijer. Maybe just a song or two. Maybe just the first thirty seconds of a song. His strong ability for melody, propulsive rhythms, and a knack for creating a sound that feels familiar enough that you connect immediately, […]

Turning The Knobs : Daniel Davies Talks ‘Events Score’, Gear, and ‘Halloween’

I don’t think I’ve ever known or been related to anyone famous. I mean, I had a second cousin that played in The Rivieras in the early 60s. Willy Gaut(I knew him as Billy Gaut, but who am I to argue with Wikipedia?) was my mom’s first cousin. I remember him coming by the house […]

Exploring Textures : Michael C. Sharp Talks Collaborations and ‘End Times’

Michael C. Sharp is the musician’s musician. He can jump from drums to keys to guitar when needed(there’s probably more instruments I could add to that list), and he does in his various musical outlets. From Sungod to Äutlier to his solo work, Sharp takes whatever musical reigns in front of him and builds soundscapes and […]
