Go do the thing today…

Today is election day here in the US. The mid-terms, which in some cases is just as important and presidential elections. Maybe even more.

The mid-terms are like a 90-day job review. It’s that time that the American people can say yay or nay to how the administration has been doing so far, which includes your local politicians that are working on behalf of the administration. Yes, I know that your local politicians should be working on behalf of their constituents, aka me and you, but that’s not really what’s happening. They’re working for their own best interests and it hasn’t been more apparent than the last ten years. This isn’t a partisan thing. It’s most definitely a bipartisan thing. But I’d say that this current situation I’m seeing far more local and state legislatures that make their choices solely based on whether their great orange papa will like it or not.

I won’t hide the fact that I think what’s going on in this current administration is abhorrent, if not down right treasonous. That the hypocrisy of the current Republican party is as apparent as the world’s largest dumpster fire. If say the “other” side was doing even a smidge of what the current administration was doing the Right would be demanding executions on the White House lawn.

“What are you talking about? Huh? Give us examples!!”

I don’t have to. You’re an adult and you have eyes and ears. Look it up for yours…okay, here’s a few. Accepting a $400,000,000 luxury jet from Qatar, getting us in an unsanctioned war with Iran, threatening neighboring Canada, threatening taking Greenland, spending millions on a ballroom and destroying the Washington Memorial reflecting pool, making billions on crypto and other business ventures while still in office, talking about peoples asses at the podium, banning press from press conferences(freedom of the press), sending masked gunmen to American cities to hunt down illegal immigrants and murdering American protesters in the process(yes, murder.)

And this is just the last 6 months.

If you’re here in the US, go vote. I’m not here to change the minds of those that have voted for this three times in a row. Your mind is made up, and frankly it’s not worth it for my own mental well being to argue about what’s so bad about this President, his minions, and his policies. If you have to ask, you’re a part of the problem. And frankly, so is all the votes you will cast.

I’m talking to the folks hanging out in the center left and far left. Sure, you’re not getting THE candidate that you want. Neither am I. But we have to start somewhere. First we need to cut this current tumor out so we can at least heal and not succumb to what has been happening since January, 2025. I know it’s easy to just say fuck it I’m not participating. This election is happening whether you participate or not. As Geddy Lee once sang, “If you choose not to decide, you still have made a choice”. If you don’t vote, you’re still voting. It’s just going to waste. It might as well be a choice for authoritarianism and fascism.

My wife and I voted over two weeks ago at the Justice Building. Wanted to avoid any riff raff, plus I just wanted to get my vote in. I am apprehensively optimistic that there will be some shifts today. Things feel different from November of 2024. It feels like people are finally getting fed up, even the ones that voted for this shit show. I guess it took the policies to affect them personally. Didn’t care how it was affecting the non-religious, pro gay rights, pro-choice, anti-war, anti fascists crowds…but now that gas is sky high and groceries keep climbing and we’re in a war that seemingly doesn’t have any end in sight(short of nuclear bombs going sky high) it seems some red hat folks are ready for something different.

You’re still an asshole, but I’m glad you’re looking at the world outside of your own arse.

Rest of the world? Just know there are sane, empathetic, thoughtful, and intellectually-inclined folks still here. You may not hear us under all the Far Right speak and neo-fascist whines, but we’re here. And we are voting today. I hope enough of us get out to make a damn difference.

I feel like I’m the parent apologizing to the other parents for our child shitting in the living room and smearing it all over the walls, but here I am….trying to clean this shit up.
