Sick in the head…and arms, legs, back, shoulders, etc….

I love fall. I don’t love cold and flu season. They seem to walk hand in hand like the ying and yang of life. I wish we could move cold and flu season to, say, just a two week span in March then it goes away. Unfortunately I don’t have a say in when viruses decide to rear their ugly heads, so I’m stuck feeling like crap in my favorite time of year.

Sunday I started having back pain. The usual suspect when it comes to body aches for me. I’m prone to the pinched nerve, ever since my herniated disc. It comes and goes, and mostly doesn’t last that long. But by Monday I also had a low grade fever, as well as additional aches and pains. Also, my BP was running higher than normal. I can take the colds and runny noses and even the occasional pinched sciatic nerve, but the BP stuff makes me get anxious. Since I got out of the hospital it’s been in the perfect zone, with the help of my pharmacy at home. So when I’m getting 144/89, 155/91, and 160/104 I begin to flip out. Of course, I’m also running a 100.00 degree fever as well, so I’m thinking in the back of my mind that is probably why it’s high. My body is working overtime fighting some Pneumonic plague I got at the grocery store because some mouth breather came out for chips while they’re dying inside.

But even on anxiety meds my mind loves to play the “what if?” game. So I decided I’d stay home from work yesterday and just do nothing. Just sit and binge something, do some writing, and spin a couple albums. I ran a fever all day and had the high BP readings. I messaged my cardiologist and let them know. I’d rather be safe than sorry, you know? So I told them the readings and that I’ve had a fever for close to 48 hours. They said likely it’s just my body fighting the virus, but to just keep taking my readings and let them know how it’s going next week.

So that made me feel better at least. Maybe not physically, but mentally for sure.

So I spent the afternoon binging the new Carrie series on Amazon. I got thru 5 episodes and I have to say, Mike Flanagan has made another masterpiece. He does a very cool thing in that he steers things more towards the book. I love DePalma’s cinematic take, but this version feels far more prescient of the times. And he includes the documentary-style of King’s original novel which I love. The casting is impeccable, as is the music. I’ve read people complaining this should be told by a woman, not a man since it’s about a teen girl’s coming-of-age/telekinetic power. But the story was written by a man 50 years ago. And while Flanagan wrote the pilot as well as directed it, many of the following episodes were written and directed by women.

Complainers gonna complain.

Anyways, if you’re a fan of Mike Flanagan’s films and series I highly recommend this one. Makes me all the more excited for his Exorcist film coming next year. I think I might even rewatch The Haunting of Bly Manor as well, as it’s his only series I haven’t watched more than once.

Back at work today, and still sick. But I only have today and tomorrow and I’ll get some rest. Fever is at 99.6, but my BP was 131/85, so I’ll take that for being ill.

Enjoy your day, and don’t take that good health for granted kids. Get out there and enjoy the day.
