Rocky Mountain Way : Denver Vacation Day Three – Home Away From Home

Good day from Denver, CO. Hump Day here in Denver was a much better experience than the last two. Weather was still all over the place, but we started the day out flipping through stacks of vinyl, CDs, books, and vintage thrift shops. It felt like being transported home for a few hours. Twist and Shout Records, Tattered Cover Books, Wax Trax Records, and even a jaunt through Target went a long way to easing our heads and hearts a bit.

Sometimes even when all you want to do is get away from home and your usual surroundings a shot of familiarity is a good grounding force. The Air BnB is nice, but very small. It’s not conducive to comfy evening TV or lazy hangs. It’s a place to sleep, eat, and leave from. It’s a landing strip in the middle of some strange, unfamiliar ocean of buildings, people, and overwhelming surroundings.

This isn’t like a cabin/house in Brown County; or our lovely home away from home near Three Rivers. This is the kind of place to sleep and shower in-between hitting the sites and sounds. The reason we like those homes in southern Indiana is because they are conducive for hanging out and cooking. We don’t eat out very much. I’m a cook. I like to cook. Searching for sustenance on menus and online isn’t our world.

So a reprieve from the unknown to the comforts of a record or book shop was a much needed escape.

My wife’s stomach issues seemed to have improved, though there’s still some cramps here and there reminding us that we’re not out of the woods yet. Like I said, our stomachs aren’t used to this eating out thing.

We’ve got one more day in CO, and it’s the big show. It’s the main reason we are here, to see Dr. Dog play tonight at Red Rocks. My weather app says Morrison, CO is supposed to be sunny all day today. The weather app my wife was looking at yesterday said it’s supposed to rain. We’re going with my app. Still, we’ve got ponchos so we’ll take them just in case.

Oh, the Target trip was because we wanted to find a backpack we could take on as one of our carry-ons from all the delicious vinyl, books, and t-shirts we purchased. So we got a nice new backpack out of this trip.

Here’s our Colorado Hump Day in photos. Enjoy.
