Edena Gardens Returns With ‘Dens’, out December 1st; Listen To First Single “Dusted”

Trilogies are the perfect means of storytelling. Three films that tell an expanded tale and take us on a journey. It’s the perfect collection of artistry, storytelling, and concept. Movies, books, and even music can tell a tale over the course of three albums. Denmark’s musical trio Edena Gardens has taken the musical trilogy to a whole new level.

In case you’ve just stumbled across Edena Gardens for the first time here, let me fill you in:

The band consists of Causa Sui drummer Jakob Skøtt , multi-instrumentalist Martin Rude on bass and baritone guitar, and rounding out the three-piece is Papir guitarist Nicklas Sørensen. These three have covered ground ranging from slowcore to post-rock to dusty psychedelia and have built over two previous albums a kind of soundtrack to a dystopian western. Jangly guitars echo over almost ambient soundscapes; the kind of ambient that takes inspiration equally from Earth, Popol Vuh, and Ry Cooder.

First was Eden, then Agar, and now we have Dens(put those together and what does that spell? Yep, Edena Gardens.) Dens is the perfect final chapter. It sums up the wild and engaging journey Edena Gardens has put forth for us; slow churning songs that tumble and quake like southwestern winds, picking up dust and spirits from some other time.

And track “Dusted” welcomes you into the possibly final chapter of the Edena Gardens journey.

“Dusted” builds over five glorious minutes, the soulful guitar of Nicklas Sørensen floats along with delicate grace, combining the bluesy soul of Ry Cooder and Lowell George with the jazzy free form of guys like Nels Cline and Marc Ribot. The rhythm section of Rude and Skøtt build a solid rhythmic foundation that feels loose yet uniform. A rolling cascade of percussion and melodic counterpoint for Sørensen’s guitar to build and grow from.

Like I said, trilogies are the perfect vehicle to tell a story. Does that mean this is the last we’ll hear from Edena Gardens? Maybe. But what we’ve learned from some famous trilogies is that you never say never. And in the case of Sørensen, Skøtt and Rude I think we’d all welcome more to their story.

Listen to “Dusted” below. Preorder ‘Dens’ over at El Paraiso Records. Album drops December 1st.
