DSC03715Well I threw Deafheaven’s Sunbather on after having listened to Dent May’s Warm Blanket on repeat for the last two days.  Quite a palette cleanser.  When I first listened to Sunbather I was floored by the music, but the screaming vocals just didn’t do it for me.  Then I listened to it again.  And again.  And yet again.  Then I bought the lovely vinyl you see above and it all clicked.  I was able to spend some ample time with the album at high volumes and it showed it true brutal beauty to me.  And after this week, brutal beauty is what is needed.

My son said to me tonight when I held the yellow vinyl up “Wow!  It’s lemon!  You have a lot of vinyl like that, and that’s awesome!”  Now I know who gets the vinyl collection in the will. But he is right.  Deathwish Records went above and beyond on this release.  Not only did they have two different color versions, but the vinyl pressing sounds amazing.  A lot of companies will press shit and then put it out with pretty colors to appease schlubs, well, like me.  But they gave us something special with this album release.  And Deafheaven?  I think they put out one of the best albums of the year.  When my son says “This sounds like it should be in a horror movie”, I know we’ve got something special.

Okay, back to the music.

  1. Really think you’d flip out for ISIS. Try RDIO-ing ‘Panopticon’, oe even better ‘Oceanic’. Trust me I’m a Dr.

(well not really, but I read a bit of a medical textbook once).

    1. I shall check it out sir. Or, should I say “Dr.” sir?

I’ve had every intention of checking ISIS out for some time now. Well, ever since you mentioned them before. Then I checked out Palms and forgot to go back to ISIS. Forget I shall not no more.

What do you think? Let me know
