The only thing missing from America’s post-apocalyptic dystopia would be that big old mushroom cloud to give us the right amount of burnt-up mutants, rebuilt 70s muscle cars into destruction derby cruisers, and of course the great Tina Turner(RIP). The bombs have yet to drop and there seems to be plenty of gas(and more on the way thanks to that stolen crude), but if you offered up the folks here in the USA some Thunderdome – fight to the finish entertainment displayed right on the White House lawn – I think it would be a ratings beast.
I don’t know what’s going on here. Our President is the furthest thing from smart, or even business savvy(how many bankruptcies disqualify you from the “smart businessman” moniker? I’d think one.) And yet here we are invading countries in order to steal their natural resources for our own selfish means. This isn’t the first time we’ve done something like that, but we always kept the real reason for boots on the ground(and dead soldiers IN the ground) by saying we were trying to stop the communists from taking over(Good Morning, Vietnam!!!). We didn’t flaunt our bullying tendencies right out in the open. It was still equally heinous, but back then we still paid no attention to the man behind the curtain. Nowadays it seems to be a point of pride for the American government to thumb their nose at due process and waiting for Congress to approve these military moves.
It’s tiring to even open my phone or laptop and attempt to keep up on current events. It’s sad, terrifying, overwhelming, and completely soul-crushing anymore. I think the government has gotten what they wanted, which was people to stop talking about our President and the Epstein files. This corrupt, evil, and dangerous administration has done so many heinous things in the last month or so that Epstein has been locked away to make room for colonizing tendencies, pirate tendencies, and the private armies going door to door to look for people of certain ethnicities. “Now YOU can experience the horror of the Stasi grabbing people and disappearing them, just like European Jews did 75 years ago!!”
I’m leaving work at noon today and will not return till next Tuesday. I’m barely two weeks out from the last week and a half off, yet that feels like it was a lifetime ago. Between the world burning and my job going from manageable to incomprehensible I just need to give my brain a break. Be at home and work on creative projects, do some graphic novel reading, and drown out the static in my head with records spinning. Things will still be equally screwed next Tuesday, but at least for four days I can pretend.
