Heavy-hearted in the Midwest since 2011
Image by © Neal Preston/Corbis It wasn’t until I was in my early 20s that I fell for Steely Dan. It took one of my oldest friends to make me a tape mix of the “highlights” of their storied 70s discography for me to finally get it. I picked up the famous Steely Dan Gold […]

Or the anal retentive that likes things in order, collected, and neat and tidy. I love having a place to go to that gives me instant information about my […]
Read More Discogs MemoriesI’m not the biggest QOTSA fan in the room. There are others that their love and admiration for Josh Homme and crew far outweigh my own. I really didn’t come around to them till Lullabies To Paralyze. Even the massive Songs for the Deaf wasn’t enough to peak my interest in the desert rock monoliths. […]
Read More Queens of the Stone Age : VillainsWhen I first heard Courtney Barnett I had this feeling that she was this musical soulmate to Kurt Vile(true story.) From starting out as just a bedroom project of Ed Droste’s to becoming a […]

He had a four album run from 1989 to 1994 that pretty much defined for me what it is to be a songwriter. With those records, Mr. Music Head, Young Lions, Inner Revolution, and Here, I’d felt that I had my […]
Read More Happy Birthmark!I was sad to wake up to the news that we lost yet another “Master of Horror”, Mr. Tobe Hooper. While he never quite had the career or accolades of guys like Wes Craven, John Carpenter, and George Romero, he still contributed to the genre in a big way. His biggest and most prominent work […]
Read More Tobe Hooper : 1943-2017Lofty beauty. That’s the phrase that comes to my mind when I hear the music of Maine. No, I’m not talking about the indigenous sounds of Bangor, Augustus, Portland, or Oguquit. I’m talking about French electronic musician and composer Michel Dupay’s band Maine. I haven’t dug in too deep to Dupay’s past or what he […]
Read More Maine : VIn my life, Van Halen have gone from being hailed as Gods to being complete clowns back to being a source of great love and nostalgia. Growing up in the Midwest in the 80s you were limited on cultural growth and expanding ones tastes musically to Top 40 radio and physical print mags you found […]
