I’m finding it hard to believe we’re in the situation we are – politically and socially – in the year 2025. I’m astonished that some in the country believe that Donald Trump is fighting for them. Like, they’re that naive to think he has their best interests in mind. After all of the (proven) stories about him ripping people off, all the bankruptcies, all the infidelities, and of course the massive pile of lies told. And not only just over the last 9 years, but this guy’s entire life. How can someone think this guy is presidential material?
As we’ve seen over the last two weeks he’s wanting to officially make the US an oligarchy. The US has been quietly turning into an oligarchy for years, but having a handful of some of the richest people in the world sitting with you at your inauguration is the proof in the pudding. And giving someone like Elon Musk free range in the halls of government does not sound like a good idea. I guess the rich kids look out for each other, ehh? We’re squeezing out people like myself, someone firmly in the lower half of the middle class, and creating just two classes: the poor and the ultra rich. But even not breaking six figures(with both my wife and myself working) we’ve never gotten government assistance. Even when I was the only one working so my wife and I could raise our kids on our own.
Three kids, on one full-time wage. It wasn’t easy, and sometimes it was pretty damn hard. But despite that we made ends meet without taking money from the government. And what’s my reward for being fiscally responsible and raising my kids right? I’m being pushed further down the line and treated like garbage by a government that’s supposed to be working FOR me, not against me. And now we have a guy in office who’s whole existence is grudges, revenge, and putting the screws to ANYONE that disagreed or called him out for his shit behavior and his incessant lies.
And so if we dump all government assistance, are they going to kick that back to me in my pay check? Dump social security? Okay, so should I expect a payout for the nearly 35 years I’ve paid into it? You never hear that part of the equation, do you? And the flag-waving boomers and Gen Xers(and I’m sure all those other Gens) hailing Trump and his minions on getting rid of “socialism” in this country, do they know what they’re saying? That check they’re getting in the mail monthly, that socialist money, will stop. So no extra money for groceries, prescriptions, gas, birthday gifts for the grandkids,…that money won’t be there anymore.
Medicare and Medicaid? Yeah, socialism so it’s gone. Police and firemen? Yep, government employees and paid for by taxes so…socialism. Are we going to drop them as well? Make this country a free-for-all? Let the poor and weak die as they’re not pulling up their end of the bargain? The ones agreeing have money to take care of themselves, or they’re just too naive or uneducated or too lazy to read up on these things themselves. They hate a system that they’ve benefited from their entire lives. But because a “businessman” came along and told them he wanted to make the country great again all they could smell was warm apple pie in the air and hear the flapping of the American flag in their ears.
The U.S. has always been a place where we help each other out. Families not making ends meet have always had a government that would help them when they needed it. Are there people that take advantage of the current system? You bet. There’s also millionaires and billionaires who take advantage of our tax system and will sell out their employees by moving their manufacturing to countries that are cool with slave labor in order to get a better bonus. Why is it we’re only concerned with government programs that help the poor, and not the loopholes that make the ultra rich even richer? That whole “job making” thing is a joke. They’re not making jobs with those tasty tax incentives. They’re piling it up for expansion into China, Mexico, and the Caribbean. Maybe you could raise a family on a McDonalds income. But then Republicans scoff at the idea of raising the minimum wage to a living wage.
You can’t win for losing.
Then there’s the whole governing via ideological beliefs. When the government starts dropping executive orders regarding DEI hiring and gender and sexual identity then you know the church has their ear. They want to destroy the 14th amendment, make the First Amendment non-existent by putting Christianity in public schools, and consider gun ownership a right and healthcare a privilege. The Republicans are doing exactly what they said they didn’t want, putting government in our homes but only when it suits their personal belief system.
And these recent tariffs on Canada, China, and Mexico? All just theater to make a disgruntled old man feel virile and tough on the world stage. As we all know this will only increase costs to the average American with these countries raising prices on goods to cover said tariffs. They’ll have minimal damage, while what the American people pay will only go higher.
By the way, to my Canadian friends…I’m sorry on behalf of the 74,999,166 – or 48.3% – of Americans that did not vote for the orange guy. Please don’t hold it against us folks with common sense.
Not my typical stuff, I know. I just had to get all of this off my chest. I was unplugged from the current political events since the election. But like an addict I fell off the horse and started reading articles again and ended up down a rabbit hole. I’m going to do better and keep away from all the horse shit. I was much happier when I was ignorant. They say ignorance is bliss. 77,284,118 seem to think so, anyways.
