I hate it when my gut is right.
Was I hoping for a different outcome? Most certainly and without a doubt. Am I dumbfounded by the results of yesterday’s election? I am and I’m not. I’m shocked that despite all that’s come in this election cycle(including violent rhetoric, felony convictions, the whole Nazi thing, etc…etc…) a majority chose to vote in a grifter con artist for the second time over, well, a woman.
I know that’s not the total reason why the dems lost, but I think it’s a good chunk. Americans can’t get over the idea of a woman as President. So much so that they’d vote in a criminal over one.
That part doesn’t surprise me.
It didn’t matter how much better of a candidate she was, the US wasn’t going to go for it. And that’s where we are in this country, still stifled and stupid at the thought of a woman in power. So much so that entertainer, game show host, and 4-time bankruptcy filer(not to mention all those felonies and rape charges) Donnie Trump won over her. This guy still hasn’t been sentenced yet. He may go to jail and run this place from a cell.
I’d tell you all that are disappointed, sad, scared, and at a loss to hang in there. And I do…”hang in there.” But I’m not sure what good that will do to quell those fears. I don’t know what’s going to happen, especially after all the garbage that guy spewed over these last few months. Are we rewriting what America means? I don’t know. All I can say is I’m glad my kids are grown up and out of the public education system. I don’t think that’s going to even remotely resemble what it was 40 years ago, or 20 years ago. If the Christian Right extremists have their way we’ll have God back in schools in no time. Not like He was there before, but see that’s the cool thing about this new reality…you can make your own reality. And in that reality God has always been there, and apparently the separation of Church and State -or The First Amendment- never really existed.
Listen, I’m still processing this. I think it’s time I stop giving a shit about politics in general here. I’m going to just live my life and hope for the best. Maybe none of this means anything. I wasn’t expecting a Utopia had the election gone another way, but I was just hoping for a little less religion shoved into our day to day lives. And maybe gay people and people of color wouldn’t have targets on their backs.
Back to some music reviews and stories about my childhood and anxiety. There will be plenty of the latter.

well said. I agree with you. I felt like it would be a similar situation to when he ran against Hillary. As you eloquently pointed out, there’s a lot of folks that just aren’t ready to have a woman lead the country. Brit Hume, as conservative as you can be, commentator on Fox noted yesterday that the Jan 6th incident should have ended his campaign but sadly it didn’t. People who think gas will pop back to $1.75 like during Covid are delusional. His handling of COVID was inept still wanting to have rallies to stroke his ego while Americans including his supporters were dying. His way around it was just calling it the China Virus and moving on to the next rally. For all the folks that thought Joe was too old, this guy is right there and doesn’t understand policy. He knows buzz words that get the base scared and fired up – See Springfield Ohio. For such a dreadful economy, his supporters have plenty of $ to buy Trump paraphernalia sold by him or for him. Europe has to be petrified because they know he will back down to whatever Putin wants. Ukraine is in trouble unless the rest of NATO comes in and takes the lead with support. I hate that the world is shaking its head this morning shocked that America was willing to turn their noses and vote for him knowing his past and what he intends to do with the future. He’s said he wants to disband the Department of Education. Literally Make America More Dumb. The goal is to increase literacy and bring out kids up so they can be competitive in Math and Science with other counties. But a Republican congress member Marjorie Greene noted that the kids don’t need so much math or science. That’s how you end up with her and Boebert in congress. Stupid is as stupid does. Sadly, this is what I thought could happen. Is there anything she could have done in hindsight? Hard to say. She had a big late start and Needed to show she was capable. She could have picked the Pennsylvania Senator. In the end, it may not have mattered.
A long time ago prior to his political ambitions , our company did a sales meeting at one of his golf properties in Florida, Doral. I saw him in the lobby berating a manager because an African American worker was using the elevators and not the staff elevators. It’s the kind of person he is I saw that day.
