Baths : Gut

Will Wiesenfeld, aka Baths, has been making intricate, emotionally raw, and pop-leaning albums for 15 years starting with his debut Cerulean in 2010. His music tows the line between electronic pop and experimental music as Wiesenfeld covers viscerally raw and emotional lyrics under layers of tactile percussion and light synths. You listen to a Baths […]

Monday Check-In, 2/24/25 : Kalamazoo Art Fair, Grinders, Outdoor Walks

The weekend was a pretty decent one. Back in February of 2018 my wife and I headed up north to Kalamazoo, MI for the annual Kalamazoo Art Fair. I can’t remember how she found out about it, but we booked a room at a hotel for the Friday night before and headed up after work […]

Youth Lagoon : Rarely Do I Dream

Trevor Powers, aka Youth Lagoon, seems to be making up for lost time. After taking a several years hiatus from his main music project and releasing records under his own name, Powers brought Youth Lagoon back into the sunlight. It seems a serious health crisis put things into stark perspective and allowed Trevor to see […]

Benoît Pioulard, Viul, From Overseas, zakè, Marc Ertel, Wayne Robert Thomas : Koselig

Zakè Drone Recordings was born out of a time of unknowns and uncertainties five years ago in 2020. While the world was isolating and social distancing, musician and label head Zach Frizzel(zakè) started an offshoot of his home label Past Inside The Present, a label built on a community of like-minded creatives. Zakè Drone Recordings […]

Keep It Fresh

It’s a great feeling growing a record collection. Sure, it’s great growing a CD, cassette, 8-track, phonograph, etc…collection as well. But for the purpose of this long-winded post I’m talking about vinyl. I had records as a kid and in my early teens, but for about 16 years my obsession was with CDs. From 1992 […]

Monday Check-In, 2/17/25 : “Lazy Weekend”

Man, it was a lazy weekend. It’s not like I usually have jam-packed weekends anyways, but this past Valentine’s Day weekend was especially sloth-like. Besides running to town Friday afternoon for a few things, I never left the homestead. Friday night I had a couple beers and started the Stephen King miniseries Rose Red. It’s […]

Relationship Appreciation Post

My wife and I started dating in January of 1991. It was our Junior year of high school. I wasn’t much of a teenage lothario. Things got off to a great start when I started middle school and had two girlfriends within two months of entering Warsaw Middle School. Nothing to write home about. The […]

Cat Temper : From A Whisker To A Scream

Mike Langlie is a fan of the feline persuasion. His long-running musical project Cat Temper proves as much. From the album art, to the song titles, to yes even the project name it is quite apparent that Langlie loves cats. Cats might just be his muse that spurs his creativity. But don’t think for a […]

Music Gets You Through

I’ve been a little down the last couple weeks. Nothing specific I suppose, but I’ve been thinking a lot about my dog Otto and I guess I just miss him. Our hangs at home, me watching a movie with a pint and him laying up on the couch next to me. He, of the smarter […]

Causa Sui : Loppen 2024

What better way to break in the new year than with a brand new live album from Denmark’s reigning kings of fuzzed-out psych rock Causa Sui. For the past 20 years the quartet known as Causa Sui(Jonas Munk, Jess Kahr, Rasmus Rasmussen, Jakob Skøtt) have been worshipping at the alter of Blues For The Red […]
