William Adam Jones’ “Intrusive Thoughts”

My first introduction to musician/producer William Adam Jones was with the synth quartet S U R V I V E. He, along with Kyle Dixon, Michael Stein, and Mark Donica built ominous, dark musical worlds with analog machines. Capturing the work of folks like Vangelis, Brad Fiedel, John Carpenter and even Kraftwerk to some extent. […]

Edena Gardens : Quintessence

Edena Gardens, the Danish 3-piece which includes Papir’s Nicklas Sørensen(guitar), Martin Rude(bass and guitar), and Causa Sui drummer Jakob Skøtt, are on a tear. For the last few years this music trio has put out a steady flow of slow-churning post-rock psychedelia. Taking slow groove blues vibes with dystopian cosmic rock and giving us the […]

Jessica Roch : Human Music: Live Improvisations I

Musician, composer, and forward thinking artist Jessica Roch wants to connect to an audience at a human level. She wants her music to feel organic, alive, and connect emotionally as much as it does intellectually. The London-based musician weaves and guides us through everything from jazz to folk to experimental to ambient music within her […]

Kronstad 23 : Dødehavet

There’s something wild going on in Scandinavia, let me tell you. The Scandinavian musicians have tapped into a musical vein that is filled with a creativity, spontaneity, and a spirit of exploration I haven’t seen in any musical scene for a long time. Bands like Fra Det Onde, Lotus and Kanaan; not to mention true […]

“Have Spacesuit Will Travel” : The Return of Sleep(minus Matt Pike)

I didn’t get into Sleep until about 12 years ago or so. I was probably one of the very few that didn’t have weed as my entry point into the pot loving stoner/doom metal band’s sonic world. I was more intrigued by the hour-long song called “Dopesmoker” that became their pivotal release, and which more […]

Edena Gardens Returns With Double LP ‘Quintessence’, Out In August; Listen To Single “Earth Blemish”

Edena Gardens is the post-rock/psych rock/apocalypse soundtrack trio of guitarist Nicklas Sørensen, bass/baritone guitarist Martin Rude, and drummer extraordinaire Jakob Skøtt. These Danish musicians have been blowing minds as Edena Gardens for the past few years now; as well as playing in bands like Papir, Causa Sui, London Odense Ensemble, and Sun River respectively. But […]

Fortune Teller : The Empress

One label has remained steadfast with their mission to open eyes, open ears, and blow minds with music that delves into the Gothic, the heady, and frizzle-fried psych freakouts. Library of the Occult and it’s proprietor/head spell binder Tom McDowell has been laying out otherworldly records since 2019. Artists reimagining the eerie and hazy sights […]

Fra Det Onde : Smilet Er En Flyktig Tilstand

The Norwegian musical ensemble Fra Det Onde(translation…”From Evil”) live in their very own musical universe. Their sound is anything but ordinary, yet they lock into the freedom of free jazz, psych rock, and progressive as if it comes second nature. The band -which consists of jazz drummer Olaf Olsen(Needlepoint, Motorpsycho, Bigbang and others), bassist Rune […]

Pye Corner Audio : More Songs About The Sun

Martin Jenkins has built a steady career out of making slow-building, electronic-based music that feels cryptic, eerie, dread-inducing. Pye Corner Audio is the essence of hauntology; music inspired by synth-based scores and low-key techno beats that are as hypnotic as they are cinematic. Albums like Sleep Games, Black Mills Tapes, Prowler, and The Endless Echo […]

SML : Spontaneous Music Live

The L.A. musical quintet known as SML have had a couple incredibly productive years. The band -which includes Josh Johnson(sax), Anna Butterss(bass), Jeremiah Chiu(electronics), Booker Stardrum(drums), and Gregory Uhlmann(guitar)- have given new spark and excitement to the world of improvisational music. Their 2024 debut, Small Medium Large, was built with these jumpy, kinetic tracks that […]
