Complex Distractions is a little corner of the universe where music and conversation reign supreme. Intellectual discussions and essays written about heady records, both big and small, that despite what you might think can truly change your life.

There’s also stories about life, love, death, our existence, and how pizza can save us all.

J Hubner has been a writer since he was a 4th grader wearing Husky jeans and Star Wars tees. He started playing guitar when he was 12 and since his early 20s has written, recorded, performed, mixed and released onto the world a whole slew of homemade basement albums in various genres and varying degrees of quality under several nom de plumes.

In 2011 he decided he made a better fan of music than maker of music. With the gentle nudge of his wife, J Hubner started writing on a WordPress blog called jhubner73.com. This is where the Midwestern dolt found what he’d been looking for. His true outlet. Writing and expounding on music he’s passionate about. Plus, now his wife and kids don’t have to hear anymore band practices in the basement.

Welcome to Complex Distractions. Stay for a bit.

  1. Hi! Iโ€™ve really enjoyed reading your blog and look forward to new posts. I’ve nominated you for The Liebster Award, intended to recognize up-and-coming blogs, particularly those with fewer than 200 followers. Just visit my blog to view the post and nomination ๐Ÿ™‚

  2. Wow you’re so accomplished! Good for you. Music is an awesome creative outlet. I wish I could create music!

Thanks for following my blog! I like yours too!

    1. Thank you! Music has always been a constant in my life. Whether it was the soundtrack to my childhood imagination, or what allowed me a means to express myself, it’s played a huge part in making me who I am.

I look forward to reading more of your posts!

    1. Wow! Thank you Kate! I will check this out as soon as I can. Sunshine Blogger Award. It sounds so, sunshine-y!

Thanks again. This means a great deal to me, especially coming from someone whose writing I greatly admire!

  3. Hi Enjoy your reviews and just started to listen to your Bandcamp and digging it so far (esp. your range of styles – lots of creativity) – would like to feature you sometime and would also love to have you write for Indie Rock Cafe (250K monthly visitors). Please email me.

  4. I do completely love your blog……always such a good read too…. You know that if your ever running short of creative outlets, we’re desperate for a Midwestern correspondent (or indeed anywhere in the US) ๐Ÿ˜‰ sadly we’re not indie rock cafeand we don’t get 250k visitors a month. But I will send you some Henderson’s relish, from Sheffield. That’s probably as good…..

  5. Here’s the link to that vid of the Aussie comedian slamming awful-awful Joan Rivers, J. Adam Hills makes me proud. ๐Ÿ™‚

    1. Thanks man! It’s always an honor to be nominated by a fellow blogger…and especially one I quite respect and admire!

I’ll work on this as soon as I’m able. Thanks again!

  6. Can you believe that there’s still something like blogger awards? I got nominated and had to nominate some bloggers myself and immediately had you in mind. You don’t have to take part in it, though (it’s one of those “answer a lot of questions”-thingies). But here it is, nevertheless: https://fichtenstein.wordpress.com/2018/01/19/mystery-blogger-award-is-it-spoopy-is-it-mysterious-no-its-mostly-a-chain-mail-thingy/

    1. I remember the first time I was nominated for one of these things I felt like I’d won some grand award. I was the toast of the blogging town. Turns out that wasn’t the case, but it was still an exciting couple of days.

Thanks for the nomination. While I probably won’t answer these, it’s an honor just being nominated, especially from one of my favorite bloggers.

      1. Since your award room – if physical – would look like a football stadium filled with trophies and the amount of questions you’ve had to have answered since the first one would amount to the assembled knowledge of the universe, I totally get it.
Although the song that reminds you of home would have really interested me. Maybe a single post without reference to the award?
