Fort Wayne, Indiana duo Brother Gene dropped their debut single titled “Buckle Up” on March 8th. The duo, which consists of Joe Stilwell & Lee Cliff, recorded the track with Ethan Kattau. Kattau also produced, mixed and mastered Brother Gene’s debut.
“Buckle Up” doesn’t seem to be following trends or attempting to win you over with cool effects or production tricks. The song has a laid back sound that brings to mind Here We Go Magic, Diiv, Wild Nothing, and even a little bit of Real Estate. It’s alternative music, post-2010. It pulls you in with a sort of melancholy nostalgia. It’s a song that feels familiar, but you can’t quite pinpoint why. It’s a promising song, and one that hopefully leads to more music.
There’s not much else on these two, but you can check out “Buckle Up” at any of those streaming services you might frequent. You can also check out the song below and click on over to Brother Gene’s Bandcamp page and buy the track straight from the band.
You nailed the description. I dig this track.
