“The Shape Returns”

John Carpenter, Cody Carpenter, and Daniel Davies have unleashed the first piece from their soundtrack to David Gordon Green’s Halloween and it’s an eerie reminder of what made Carpenter’s original so chilling, seductive, and the iconic piece it has become.

The track, aptly titled “The Shape Returns”, sounds like a microcosm of all the various bits and elements from Carpenter and Alan Howarth’s original soundtrack. The piano, the looming moans and synth lines all come together beautifully here with the help of Cody Carpenter and Daniel Davies(the senior Carpenter’s collaborators and bandmates for the last few years now.) The result is nostalgia overload and a keen desire to carve a pumpkin and walk the neighborhood in a Dickies work suit.

It’s not all revisiting the past, though. The younger Carpenter and Daniel Davies have given this classic theme some modern touches that lift it from mere nostalgia to something of a retelling of the original’s motifs.

Check the track below, as well as the newest trailer to Green’s Halloween. Halloween drops October 19th, 2018, and the new score by John Carpenter, Cody Carpenter, and Daniel Davies arrives in stores the same day via Sacred Bones Records.
