Looking for Aurora

Up until last night I didn’t know who Aurora Shoemaker was. My wife had mentioned an 18 year old girl had been missing since August 16th from a nearby trailer park in Warsaw, IN.  Apparently she had left her home with nothing more than the clothes on her back and her cell phone. That was the last time anyone had seen her. It’s now been two weeks since Aurora Shoemaker disappeared without a trace and the local Sheriff’s Department have no clues or answers regarding what happened to Aurora.

Gone, without a trace.

Like I said, I don’t know Aurora Shoemaker or her family. I don’t know her friends, or if she hung out with kids or adults that maybe she shouldn’t have. I don’t know Aurora’s favorite color, or her favorite food. I couldn’t tell you who Aurora’s favorite band is or her favorite movie. I don’t know what Aurora’s dreams or aspirations were. Did she want to go off to college? What did she want to do with the rest of her life?

I don’t know.

What I know is that I’m a dad with 3 kids of my own. They’re everything to me. If something were to happen to them I’d never be the same. I can’t even begin to understand the hell Aurora Shoemaker’s parents and family are going through right now. Two weeks. That’s how long it’s been since they’ve seen or heard from their daughter. Two weeks since they’ve been able to ask Aurora how her day was. Or what she wanted for dinner. Or to tell her to pick up her bedroom. Or to tell her that they loved her.

If you know anything about Aurora Shoemaker’s disappearance and you haven’t come forward, think about her parents. Think about her family. Even if you feel it’s insignificant, it doesn’t matter. What may be insignificant to you, may be vital to finding Aurora and bringing her safely home. It’s a phone call. Help Aurora Shoemaker get back home.  Safely.

  1. Thank you so much for caring about Aurora, she is my niece–but the one thing that you should know is that she has been missing a lot longer than 2 mths–she disappeared on Aug 16 2012, so it has now been over a year since she has been gone. It has been a year with no leads and much confusion as to where she is and what could have happened to her. It is difficult for her siblings she is the second of 5 kids with 3 of them being much younger than she is.

    1. Thank you for commenting Jane.

Having three kids of my own, Aurora’s disappearance truly hit home with me. And the fact that we live not more than four miles from where she was last seen made it all the more disturbing.

I am truly sorry that your family has not heard anything else regarding her disappearance or Aurora’s whereabouts. I can’t even imagine what her siblings are going through, let alone Aurora’s parents. And you being her aunt, well my heart goes out to you and your family.

I actually wrote this article in August of 2012, shortly after hearing about Aurora’s disappearance in the hopes that the more people knew about her the better.

My thoughts are with all of you.

What do you think? Let me know
